Dear Church Family,
I hope everyone is doing well and enjoying these summer months.
Until recently everything has appeared to be running smoothly and we have been able to enjoy getting back to normal. Unfortunately, the news from around the country and our city has not been encouraging. The Delta variant of Covid-19 has caused dramatic increases in the transmission of this virus. Hospital cases have risen significantly, and it appears those who are fully vaccinated may also be at risk.
Pastor Barry asked me to contact the members of our “Back to Church” team and get their opinion on wearing masks and social distancing. One member felt it should be a personal decision while all other members were in favor of wearing masks again. The overall opinion, of those in favor, was to wear masks to protect the most vulnerable in our congregation and those who have not been vaccinated. I am in agreement with the majority.
I know this may seem like a step backwards and how much everyone wants this pandemic to end, but it hasn’t quite yet. We will get through this but we must remain diligent in our efforts to prevent the transmission. Therefore, by majority vote, we ask that the congregation return to wearing masks this Sunday and continue until the Covid cases decline. We will watch the numbers closely here in Chatham County and respond accordingly.
Thank you for your patience as we all try to do what is best for our church family.
